Joel Gott, Founder & Winemaker

Founded in 1996 by Joel Gott, a 4th generation California vintner, Joel Gott Wines is rooted in authenticity and committed to crafting fruit-forward, balanced, delicious wines for people to enjoy. The Joel Gott Wines portfolio features five core wines: 815 CA Cabernet Sauvignon, CA Sauvignon Blanc, CA Unoaked Chardonnay, CA Pinot Noir and Oregon Pinot Gris. In addition to these core wines, Joel Gott Wines produces a wide range of varietals that are produced from fruit from California, Oregon and Washington.

Joel Gott Wines are notable for the diverse fruits that are sourced for each appellation. The team cultivates long-term grower relationships with carefully selected vineyard sites in California, Oregon and Washington in order to craft elegant wines. Fruit from each vineyard is crushed, fermented and aged separately before coming together for extensive blending trials that drive the creation of each

Joel is a fourth-generation California vintner, and wine and food entrepreneur. Joel was born in Napa Valley and raised in the Sierra Foothills where his parents started Montevina Winery.

Maxing out his credit cards, Joel purchased several tons of Amador County Zinfandel from a family friend and grape grower in 1996. He made the wine with the help of his then-girlfriend and winemaker Sarah, whom he married the following year. Sarah grew up in Marin County and, later, in Knights Valley, a stretch of farmland and vineyards linking Napa Valley with Alexander Valley in northern Sonoma County. Sarah graduated from the University of California at Davis’ Viticulture and Enology Department and later worked at Joseph Phelps and Quintessa.

The 1996 Zinfandel was praised by the Wine Spectator, the Wine Advocate and the New York Times, helped put Joel Gott Wines on the map, and gave Joel the chance to produce additional varietals.

In 2009, Joel and Sarah partnered with Trinchero Family Wine and Spirits to continuing building a broad portfolio of food-friendly, quality wines for everyone to enjoy.
