The Ceretto family has been producing wines in Piemonte's Langhe for three generations and more than 90 years.

Established in the 1930s, Ceretto is a revered producer from the Langhe with a sincere commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture, world-class hospitality, and to preserving the viability of its native terroir for future generations.

Three Generations of Cerettos

The Ceretto grape-growing legacy was started by Riccardo Ceretto, whose sons, Bruno and Marcello, later purchased their family’s first single vineyard, named Bricco Asili, in the DOCG Barbaresco in 1968. This was the beginning of many extraordinary vineyards and wineries to come, which today includes state-of-the-art production facilities near Alba, in the DOCG Barolo and in the DOCG Moscato d’Asti.

The third generation, Lisa, Roberta, Alessandro and Federico, joined the company in 1999, continuing the family’s legacy in winemaking. They have upheld Ceretto’s dedication to sustainable viticulture, ensuring all estate-grown fruit is cultivated organically. This generation has also expanded the family’s influence beyond wine into the realms of art, architecture, and gastronomy.

Alessandro Ceretto, grandson of founder Riccardo Ceretto, joined the family business in 1999 after studying at the University of Bordeaux and gaining experience in top wine regions worldwide. His primary goal was to transition the family’s approximately 400 acres of vineyards in the Langhe to organic and biodynamic agriculture. Today, as Head Winemaker, Alessandro oversees the family’s four Langhe estates, ensuring the highest standards of quality and innovation are upheld.

Region

The Ceretto family owns over 400 acres of estate vineyards in the famed Langhe and Roero regions of northern Italy. Their holdings include:

  • 42 acres within the prestigious DOCG Barolo appellation
  • 24 acres within the renowned DOCG Barbaresco appellation
  • 56 acres dedicated to producing DOCG Moscato d’Asti

In addition to vineyards, the family owns 98 acres of hazelnut orchards, known locally as the Nocciola Tonda Gentile delle Langhe, a species which is widely regarded as the finest hazelnut species in Italy. To enhance the prestige of this unique agricultural product, the Ceretto family founded Relanghe, a small craft confectionery company specializing in fine chocolates and nougats made exclusively with the family’s hazelnuts.

Beyond wine and limited chocolate production, the Ceretto family also owns a 12-acre organic vegetable farm, which supplies fresh, seasonal produce to their two acclaimed restaurants in Alba:

  • Piazza Duomo a Michelin three-star culinary destination
  • La Piola, a traditional trattoria celebrating authentic regional cuisine

Winery

The Ceretto winery facilities represent a harmonious blend of tradition, innovation, and sustainability. The family operates four distinct estates:

  • Bricco Rocche (Castiglione Falletto) – Located in the heart of prestigious Barolo production and, featuring the iconic glass Cube, an architectural icon of the region.
  • Bricco Asili (Barbaresco) – The first winery built by the Ceretto family, dedicated to vinification and aging of Barbaresco.
  • Monsordo Bernardina (Alba) – The headquarters of Ceretto, housing administrative offices, an elegant tasting room, and the innovative l’Acino installation, providing panoramic views of the vineyards.
  • I Vignaioli di Santo Stefano (Santo Stefano Belbo) – Dedicated to artisanal production of high-quality Moscato d’Asti.

Sustainability

The Ceretto family implements various organic and biodynamic practices in their vineyards, including minimal tilling of the soil and planting nutrient-rich cover crops to preserve the balance between soil structure, microorganisms and the organic matter generated in the soil. They also implement ‘soft pruning’ to minimize stress on their vines and employ different biodynamic protocols to ensure optimal soil and plant health.
