Ménage à Trois launched in St. Helena, California in 1996 with a convention-shattering blend of three red varietals. In a pacesetting move, Ménage à Trois fused Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon—long before blends were a trend in the U.S.— cementing the brand’s iconic status as the catalyst behind today’s popular California Red Blend category. Capturing wine lovers’ imaginations through word of mouth, the original red blend offering was soon joined by white and Rosé blends as well. Continuing to grow, Ménage à Trois increased significantly after being added to the Trinchero Family Wine and Spirits portfolio in 2004.

Ménage à Trois has thrilled wine fans with its unapologetically bold persona and an equally adventurous approach to flavor. The unmistakable graphic interpretation of Ménage à Trois—twin dancers inspired by Rorschach inkblots—communicates the alluring, playful personality blended into every seductive sip. And fanciful names like Silk, Limelight, Lavish and Luscious hint at the sensuous layers of flavor in each glass.

When our boldly curious founders decided to “experiment threely” and blend together a luscious threesome of distinctively different grapes into one wine, they knew it needed a name that would live up to this innovative, provocative blend. They called it Ménage à Trois. Not just because it was a revolutionary three-grape blend, but because, like its taste, it deserved a name that would never blend in.
