Tony was born in England in 1963 and initially pursued a career in finance, but a trip to California and Australia in 1990 kindled a passion for wine which led to a career change, and work in the UK wine retail environment in both boutique and warehouse outlets.
The next few years saw Tony traveling between France and Australia, working in Bordeaux, The Loire, and the Languedoc as well as Australian icon wineries including Chateau Tahbilk and Hardy’s Tintara. Tony and his family finally settled in Renmark, initially working for BRL Hardy. Tony then joined the Angove Family Winemakers team in 2002.
Tony has been a key figure in implementing the paradigm shift in the Angove winemaking philosophy; targeting consumers with exceptionally flavored and high value wines as well as producing the Angove flagship The Medhyk Shiraz from old vines in McLaren Vale. He works closely with the many vineyards that supply top quality grapes from around South Australia, especially McLaren Vale and the Angove family’s own Nanya Vineyard in Renmark, where he encourages the use of modern techniques and traditional methods. Tony was deeply involved in the decision to manage the Angove Family Winemakers’ McLaren Vale Warboys Vineyard using organic and biodynamic principles; and the commitment to converting Nanya vineyard to Organic status. Tony has been instrumental in developing and defining the new premium brands Angove Family Winemakers has introduced with great success to the new world wine scene.
